The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was established and organized by the City in 1998 to orchestrate the downtown revitalization process and provide overall leadership, coordination, communication and information. The responsibilities associated with the DDA are:

·        Developing a marketing strategy

·        Prepare an overall marketing campaign to promote the community as a place to do business;

·        Aid in the start up and growth of new businesses

·        Expansion of new business;

·        Encourage new private investment in cooperation with local lenders, both public and private;

·        Finally to make citizens and local business operators ambassadors of the community.

 The DDA was created pursuant to Georgia Downtown Authorities Law. The officers of the Board include the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The DDA is actively involved in a variety of community projects that include the Street Festival, Holiday Activities, Community Clean-Up and others that help bring people together.The DDA holds meetings the last Tuesday of each month in the Lithonia Plaza. At these meetings local elected officials will speak, developers make presentations, community projects are discussed and where the general public has an opportunity express their interests or concerns. The DDA also relies heavily on volunteers to help with many of the projects and activities.
